Samsung i9100 Galaxy S2 gets Official Android 4.4 KitKat

Galaxy S2 gets official support from CM 11
There have been a lot of custom ROMs of Android 4.4.2 KitKat being developed since its release back in October 2013. Most of them have been for current smartphones and tablets, like the Google Nexus 5 or the Samsung Note 3. However, we have also seen some older devices getting updates too.
First we saw devices like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus getting official support from custom ROMs. This was a smartphone that was originally abandoned by Google due to their 18-month support cycle, even though KitKat was made for low-end hardware devices. Today we find out that the Samsung Galaxy S II has been added to the list of supported smartphones for CyanogenMod 11. This is a device that was released in 2011, just like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and has the hardware to easily handle Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
The Samsung Galaxy S II was a very popular smartphone in its day. So much so that it even had a homebrew port that was concocted by XDA’s recognized developer milaq. Today we find out that the CM team has added the i9100 to their list of supported devices and will now be receiving nightly updates of CyanogenMod 11. The custom ROM is said to be stable and you should only see a few random bugs if you choose to install it onto your device. The Samsung Galaxy S II is said to be relatively snappy with CyanogenMod 11 installed, so you don’t have to be afraid of it bogging down your smartphone.
