Samsung i9100 Galaxy S2 gets Official Android 4.4 KitKat

Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.4 update is either going to be delivered too late, or is not happening at all. Keeping that in mind, many folks have now taken a route which leads directly towards custom ROMs. If you happen to be one of those people then this news might be just for you, Samsung Galaxy S2 is now officially supported by CyanogenMod 11

Galaxy S2 gets official support from CM 11

There have been a lot of custom ROMs of Android 4.4.2 KitKat being developed since its release back in October 2013. Most of them have been for current smartphones and tablets, like the Google Nexus 5 or the Samsung Note 3. However, we have also seen some older devices getting updates too.
First we saw devices like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus getting official support from custom ROMs. This was a smartphone that was originally abandoned by Google due to their 18-month support cycle, even though KitKat was made for low-end hardware devices. Today we find out that the Samsung Galaxy S II has been added to the list of supported smartphones for CyanogenMod 11. This is a device that was released in 2011, just like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and has the hardware to easily handle Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
The Samsung Galaxy S II was a very popular smartphone in its day. So much so that it even had a homebrew port that was concocted by XDA’s recognized developer milaq. Today we find out that the CM team has added the i9100 to their list of supported devices and will now be receiving nightly updates of CyanogenMod 11. The custom ROM is said to be stable and you should only see a few random bugs if you choose to install it onto your device. The Samsung Galaxy S II is said to be relatively snappy with CyanogenMod 11 installed, so you don’t have to be afraid of it bogging down your smartphone.
Do you have a Galaxy S II that you still use daily? How has the smartphone aged over the years? Is it still as snappy as it was when you first purchased it? We want to know if anyone has decided to install CM 11 on their i9100 and to find out if it has breathed any new life in it.
